silver  appleyard miniature

The Silver Appleyard Miniature, or bantam,  was added to the koljash collection in early 2012.  'Mini Apps' as they are affectionately known were developed by UK breeder Tom Bartlett in the 1980's, and are an exact replica of the large but 1/3 the size.   The appearance and development of the miniature in Australia is uncertain however it is considered that like their British counterparts, they too were bred down from the standard Appleyard.  A challenge in Australia seems to be getting the colouring just right - while parent stock may look the real deal, ducklings may hatch mallard coloured, indicating presence of impure genetics.

They have shown to be a very personable duck which make good mothers.  koljash has already had pleasing results showing these birds in 2013 and look forward to this continuing with future generations bred.
